NEMRA Disaster Recovery Foundation
Time and time again NEMRA and NMG members, and their affiliates, have reached out to help others in need.
In 1992, members flooded NEMRA's national headquarters with offers to help those affected by Hurricane Andrew, which devastated southern Florida and south-central Louisiana. In the aftermath of September 11th, our members sought ways to help their colleagues in New York. And in 2005, after Hurricane Katrina, the most destructive storm in our nation's history, NEMRA members opened their hearts, their wallets - and in some cases, their warehouses - to help fellow representatives get back to business. In response to the overwhelming desire from our membership to help the rebuilding of the devastated areas, NEMRA created the NEMRA Disaster Recovery Foundation. The purpose of the Foundation is to provide NEMRA and NMG members with a channel to target donations and support in times of greatest need. Through these efforts, we send a message of hope and support to our colleagues, and strengthen the sense of community we share. Through the direction of the NEMRA Board and input from the NEMRA membership, the association has chosen to direct the current efforts of the Foundation to the building of Habitat for Humanity/New Orleans “Musicians Village” project. This project encompasses a 300-home community in New Orleans’ Upper Ninth Ward, that will provide housing for musicians of modest means and other New Orleanians who were displaced by Katrina. Due to the significance of music to the life of the city, “Musician’s Village” has become a symbol of hope to residents during the rebuilding process. Its colorful homes are a sign of the good times yet to come! The devastation from Hurricane Katrina was vast, and reconstruction will take time. We hope you will continue to support the NEMRA Disaster Recovery Foundation as we proceed with our efforts to assist the “Musician’s Village” project. Watch for periodic progress updates!
